Overview
The C106 is a four stage low speed compressor. It models the flow in a repeating stage design.
The C106 compressor is used to test the development of flows in the multi stage environment. Endwall flows take time to develop to realistic levels in compressors and the C106 is able to model this.
The stator blades are cantilevered from the casing of the compressor. In order to prevent them from rubbing on the rotor drum they have a clearance between the tip of the blade and the drum. The flow can leak from the pressure to the suction side of the blade through this gap and generate loss. In the C106 it is possible to change the clearance or the design of the tips in a sector of six stator blades and investigate effect that they have on the flow.
